Authorities in Newark are actively investigating a shooting incident that occurred in the city's West Ward on Thursday night.
According to the investigation, the incident came to light when a ShotSpotter device detected gunshots in the vicinity of 94 Munn Avenue at approximately 8:15 p.m.
Upon arrival at the scene, police discovered evidence suggesting a shooting had taken place. However, despite thorough searches in the area, they initially found no victims.
It was later discovered that a male victim had arrived at University Hospital with a gunshot wound to his stomach.
Police believe that the suspect fired approximately a dozen rounds at the victim before fleeing the scene. The victim's condition is reported as serious but stable.
The suspect in this incident remains at large.
Newark's Shooting Response Team is leading the ongoing investigation, and no other injuries were reported in connection with this incident.
Authorities are working diligently to determine the motive behind the shooting and to locate the suspect.
