If you're anything like us as a married couple, we are very different from each other.
In some areas, one of us can be super militant and free-spirited in others. It's cool when we are aligned, but the real clash happens when we are the antithesis.
Here's what we've learned to do over the years to give us flexibility within a solid structure.
Routines.
Routines: a sequence of actions regularly followed; a fixed program.
Routines create structure and boundaries.
Routines can be simple and powerful.
The right ones will address most areas of need on the marriedprenuer journey. Although it's often second nature to implement routines to execute for business growth, what's often missing are rest routines.
Rest routines are like 'gutter bumpers' used for training in bowling. They block the bowling ball from going into either the left or right gutter.
So, in turn, they help the ball from 'falling out' or, for this example, 'burnout.'
We use these 'gutter bumpers' as a rest routine to block us from getting too close to 'E.' We'd much rather plan our rests for the Quarter before we need them. It doesn't have to be exotic trips (but we're not opposed).
It usually is a short getaway for a few days to refuel while we still have fuel.
It's one thing to set a routine; it's another thing to actually start implementing. The best way we do this is by adding three different kinds of trippers.
Triggers:
- Visual triggers: We use our Marriedpreneur Operating Systems Planner as a visual reminder of when our rest routines are coming up.
- Audile triggers: We discuss the details of the rest routines during our monthly legacy meetings, and it serves as a reminder and something to look forward to!
- Accountability triggers: We ensure the calendars are clear, our team is informed, and we reschedule any conflicts or tasks that may challenge our rest period.
