Newark Woman Charged with Identity Theft After Allegedly Using a Dead Woman's Name to Apply for Loan

A 50-year-old Newark woman accused of using a dead woman's information to obtain a loan was charged with identity theft in Pennsylvania.

Karla Pigford used a fraudulent driver's license and a 65-year-old woman's pay stub to apply for a loan at the One Main Financial in Bensalem.

Pigford than went to a check cashing business to cash in the $8,500 loan, according to reports.

However, Pigford made a second attempt this time in a Northeast Philadelphia. 

She was subsequently arrested and charged with forgery and identity theft, the report said.

It is unknown if Pigford knew the victim or how she obtained her information. 

The investigation is ongoing.
