The Newark and North Jersey region will experience a deluge of heavy rain this morning, which is expected to disrupt the morning rush commute.
The downpour began around 4:28 a.m. in Harrison, NJ, and quickly spread throughout the region.
Residents and commuters were greeted with wet roads and reduced visibility, making travel challenging. Localized flooding occurred in some areas, notably on Wilson Avenue and Avenue P in Newark's Ironbound section.
The National Weather Service reported that the rain will continue into the late morning. Showers and thunderstorms were predicted between 4 a.m. and 11 a.m., with the possibility of heavy rainfall and a chance of thunderstorms persisting after 11 a.m.
NWS forecasters said the day's high temperature is estimated to reach 78 degrees, with a south wind blowing at 5 to 7 mph, later shifting westward in the afternoon.
Commuters are advised to exercise caution, allow for extra travel time, and consider alternate routes if possible due to the challenging weather conditions.
