We've been given the side-eye when we tell people that our business systems have dramatically helped our marriage.
Unless you've been at it for a while, you may not realize how powerful business systems can improve a marriage. But it's no secret how trash business systems can strain a marriage. We hear enough about that end of the spectrum; it's time to dive into the opposite end.
So we're clear: this applies to couples where even one spouse is in business because, in the end, the business will absolutely impact the marriage. The goal is to, of course, make sure it's done in a way that sharpens and nurtures closeness.
Here are three ways the right business systems can improve marriage:
- PRIORITIZE: We all know there are ALWAYS more things to do than the time actually to DO them. Without the right business systems, marriages suffer. But the right ones help to prioritize not just business but LIFE. So when you are preparing for date night or a special time together, the right business systems give space and allowance for that to be considered a priority- vs. an obstacle.
- COMMUNICATE: Communication is key to any healthy relationship. The right business systems promote transparency, understanding, and growth in constant communication.
- PLANNING: Some things can be done on a whim, but that isn't a real strategy and isn't sustainable when more than one person is involved (like in a marriage, for example 😀). Planning brings clarity, which helps husband and wife stay on the same page and quickly adjust when they aren't. The right business systems will support planning not only for business but for marriage as well. It's not one or the other; it's both.
