This Saturday, my family and friends in Newark and the North Jersey region are waking up to a much-needed break from the recent stifling heatwave, thanks to drenching rains that turned local streets into rivers in some areas on Friday.
The welcome downpour has temporarily quelled the week-long heatwave that had residents sweltering in temperatures reaching the mid-90s.
The rain relieved those yearning for cooler weather and respite from the oppressive heat and humidity.
As the day progresses, The National Weather Service said the forecast predicts that showers and thunderstorms are likely, especially after 5 p.m., with a 60% chance of precipitation.
However, the anticipated high of 85 degrees is notably cooler than the scorching conditions experienced earlier in the week.
The rain not only provides a much-needed break from the heat but also replenishes the parched ground.
According to NWS meteorologists, new rainfall amounts between a tenth and a quarter of an inch are expected, with the possibility of higher amounts in areas affected by thunderstorms.
So, as the region experiences a brief reprieve from the relentless heat, residents can breathe a sigh of relief and enjoy more bearable weather conditions this weekend.
