Gunfire shattered the calm around the Masjid Dar-Ul Islam mosque in Elizabeth yesterday, as a shooting incident broke out near the mosque's entrance.
Witnesses said that around 10:30 a.m., a dispute following a funeral led to a heated argument outside the house of worship, located in the 80s block of Marion Street.
Despite the tense situation, no injuries were reported.
Law enforcement responded swiftly with a heavy police presence, establishing a crime scene. Investigations revealed shell casings from a small caliber weapon.
The unidentified assailant, dressed in dark clothing and wearing a face mask, fled the scene before authorities arrived.
No injuries were reported.
The search for the suspect continues, raising concerns in the community about the safety around this house of worship.
