Authorities in Essex County are investigating a shooting incident that killed a male victim in Newark's South Ward Wednesday night.
At approximately 9:40 p.m., officers responded to reports of shots fired near the intersection of Hawthorne Avenue and Goodwin Avenue.
When cops arrived at the scene, they found the unconscious and unresponsive victim suffering bullet wounds.
Medical personnel pronounced the unidentified victim dead at the scene.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has taken over the investigation, and a search for the suspect is underway.
