An early morning shooting in Newark's Central Ward sent a male suffering severe injuries to the hospital.
A preliminary investigation indicated that at approximately 2 a.m., a ShotSpotter device activated in the area of 45 4th Street, sending police to the scene.
Upon arrival, police reportedly found a male suffering a bullet wound in his chest.
The conscious and alert victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment while police searched the neighborhood for additional victims.
Officers found several shell casings at the scene, but no other injuries were reported.
