UPDATE: Driver Wanted for Running Over Newark West Ward Senior Woman

Police in Newark request the public’s help in identifying a female suspect and vehicle wanted in connection with a pedestrian hit and run that occurred on Tuesday, August 8. 

Police said at approximately 7:50 p.m., officers responded to Sanford Avenue and South Orange Avenue on a call of a pedestrian struck outside the Mary Villa Senior Citizen Home.

The senior woman’s family told RLS Media that she was crossing the street when a car struck her.

According to police, the driver exited her vehicle to assist the victim to the sidewalk before returning to her car and fleeing.

The vehicle was last seen heading southbound on Sanford Avenue.

The victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment and is reportedly in stable condition.

Detectives investigating this incident describe the suspect as a Black female with long braided hair.

Police said she was wearing a black jumpsuit and pink slippers. The suspect’s vehicle is described as a yellow 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt bearing New Jersey registration number: Y17RKZ.
