Authorities in NJ reported a Passaic County man was sentenced today to 186 months in prison for producing one or more explicit images of minors and enticing a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct.
U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger said Jose Minaya, 27, of Paterson, previously pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Julien X. Neals to information charging him with one count of production of explicit sexual images of minors and one count of online enticement.
Judge Neals imposed the sentence today in Newark federal court, officials said.
According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court:
In July 2019, Minaya used a web-based application to engage a minor in a sexually explicit conversation online.
Officials say Minaya persuaded the minor to take explicit photographs of the minor and send them to him.
According to officials, Minaya was arrested at his home in May 2020, at which time agents seized multiple electronic devices.
Further investigation revealed that Minaya had used another application to entice an additional minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct.
In addition to the prison term, authorities say, Judge Neals sentenced Minaya to lifetime supervised release and ordered him to register as a sex offender.
