Morris County authorities reported the arrest of Mr. Jermaine Edwards, 51, a resident of Morristown, in connection with a tragic hit-and-run incident that occurred in Morristown.

Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll said around 9:01 p.m. on Saturday, August 12, Morristown Police officers swiftly responded to a distressing scene near Lafayette Avenue and Lackawanna Place.

Prosecutor Carroll said police were alerted to a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian.

Upon arriving, officers discovered a male victim struck by a vehicle. Shockingly, the car's driver fled the scene, leaving the victim dead.

Prosecutor Carroll said the investigation shed light on the involvement of Jermaine Edwards as the operator of the vehicle responsible for striking the victim.

Edwards then absconded from the accident site.

Prosecutor Carroll said Edwards now faces a charge of second-degree Leaving the Scene of Accident Resulting in Death.

He has been confined to the Morris County Correctional Facility pending a detention hearing determining his further legal proceedings.

The collaborative efforts of various law enforcement agencies have been integral to the ongoing investigation, with active participation from the Morristown Police, the Morris County Sheriff's Office, and the Morris County Prosecutor's Office.
