Last week we experienced a LOT of firsts in our marriage/lives.
We unexpectedly took a break from our regularly planned business and oversaw the affairs for our church's VBS Summer Camp (Vacation Bible School). Going into the week, I vastly underestimated the energy, time, and focus it would take to pull it off.
We thought that because it was only a few hours each day, we could simply move meetings around and continue our regularly scheduled programming!
Ha! The fallacy!
By the end of each day, we found ourselves in shock by how drained we felt! It was an adventure, to say the least. On top of that, we also hosted a vast back-2-school fair with school supplies sponsored by Walmart, great vendors, and even local officials who came to support.
To say it was a whirlwind would put it lightly.
Thankfully we didn't have to drive each day from our Jersey home, but we were able to stay in NYC for the week!
I say all of this to say it was A LOT!
In the middle of juggling all of the moving pieces from picking up the lunches, scheduling the vendors, and checking in the volunteers, we could have felt STRESSED. And in the past, we would have been bickering at each other because… life! LOL
But we decided to take a different approach. We decided to switch our language from stressed to stretched. That meant that we knew we were being prepared for more, and if we couldn't pass THIS test, we couldn't be trusted with more.
So we decided to grow through it.
Let me tell you something, even in that nearly triple-digit heat, we enjoyed each other and could laugh at ourselves trying to jump in where we could. We focused on one thing at a time, I worked on my strengths, and my hubby worked on his.
We had abbreviated daily legacy meetings. But even a bit of that meeting brought a piece of normalcy and focus that calmed my nervousness about the day.
Whether we stay in Airbnb or local hotels, legacy meetings have become a default. They do the heavy lifting for us!
If you and your hubby find yourselves getting off track, I recommend implementing them. If you don't know where to start, use our Marriedpreneur Meeting Checklist here.
