Authorities in Bergen County announced the conviction of Sui Kam “Tony” Tung of New York City, NY, for the murder of Robert Cantor in Teaneck, on March 6, 2011.

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said on July 27, following an 8-week jury trial before the Honorable Christopher Kazlau, J.S.C., in Bergen County Superior Court, Tung was convicted of murder.

According to officials, he was also convicted of aggravated arson, desecration of human remains, hindering apprehension, tampering with evidence, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, and stalking.

A jury convicted Tony Tung of murdering and executing Robert Cantor, the boyfriend of the defendant’s soon-to-be ex-wife, at his home in Teaneck, authorities say.

Officials said, at trial, the State presented witnesses who established that between the hours of approximately 10:30 p.m. on March 5, 2011, and 1:00 a.m. on March 6, 2011, Tung made his way from his home in New York City to Teaneck, entered Robert Cantor’s home, led Mr. Cantor to the basement bedroom, and shot him in the back of the head with a .380 caliber handgun.

According to Prosecutor, Musella Tung then set Mr. Cantor’s body, the bed, bedroom, and house on fire and fled the scene.

Authorities stated the defendant faces 30 years to life in New Jersey State Prison at sentencing, scheduled for September 8, 2023, before Judge Kazlau.
