Mays Landing officials reported, on Sunday, July 23, at approximately 3:25 a.m., the Absecon Police was dispatched to Route 30, westbound, for a crash involving two vehicles.

Authorities say the initial investigation indicates that a 2019 Nissan Sentra, operated by Edward Johnston, 25, from Egg Harbor City, was traveling westbound on the White Horse Pike when it went off the roadway to the right and struck a 1995 Honda parked on the shoulder.

An 8-year-old boy, who had been fishing with his father, was asleep in the vehicle at the time, according to officials.

Police said he was transported to the hospital but later died due to his injuries.

Johnston was issued several motor vehicle summonses, officials said.

Additional charges may be forthcoming pending a final investigation into the cause of the crash.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office’s Crash Investigations Unit and the Absecon Police are cooperatively investigating this incident.
