The Essex County Prosecutor's Office confirmed that a man was killed in an early morning shooting incident in Newark's North Ward Saturday.
At approximately 3 a.m., police were dispatched to the Marbella Lounge located in the 300 block of Broadway to investigate reports of shots fired.
According to a preliminary investigation, units arrived at the scene and found an unidentified person suffering gunshot wounds outside the bar.
The victim was rushed to University Hospital and pronounced dead by doctors at around 3:51 a.m. Essex County officials said.
Police on the scene dispersed a large crowd while securing the investigation area.
No other injuries were reported and the motive for the shooting has not been determined at this time.
