Newark and North Jersey residents are advised to prepare for heavy rain and potential thunderstorms Friday morning.

The calm before the storm will be short-lived, as rain is expected to move in around 8 a.m., bringing with it gusty winds of 30 to 40 mph.

According to National Weather Service meteorologists, the weather forecast indicates a high level of humidity at 84%, which may add to the discomfort during the rain.

The wind speed is currently at a manageable 5 mph, coming from the south, but it is expected to pick up later in the day.

Showers and thunderstorms will likely occur before 8 a.m., followed by a continuation of showers and possibly a thunderstorm between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. As the day progresses, the likelihood of showers and thunderstorms is expected to increase after 2 p.m.

NWS forecasters say some of these storms may produce gusty winds and heavy rainfall, potentially leading to challenging conditions on the roads and reduced visibility.

The National Weather Service has issued a warning about the possible impact of the storm.

Residents should be prepared for the potential of localized flooding, and those in low-lying areas should take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their property.

The forecasted high for today is around 82 degrees and the southeast wind is expected to be moderate at 5 to 7 mph. However, as the storm system moves in, NWS forecasters say weather conditions may change rapidly, so it's essential to stay informed and be prepared for sudden changes in the weather.

Drivers should exercise caution on the roads and avoid driving through flooded areas.
