East Orange Man Among Four Arrested for Newark Shootings

Newark Police arrested four individuals and charged them with four of multiple shootings that occurred this summer in Newark. 

The suspects have been identified as the following from (left to right) Lopez, Johnson, Everson, Swinton: 

July 17, 2023 – Mr.  Raafiq J. Everson, 25, of East Orange, faces charges of unlawful possession of a weapon and false swearing for an incident that occurred on July 3, 2023, in the area of Orange Street and Myrtle Avenue.

July 15, 2023 – Mr. Kevin Swinton, 27, of Newark, faces charges of robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in connection with an armed robbery that occurred on April 4, 2023, at 1st Street and Orange Street.

July 11, 2023 – Mr. Clifton Johnson, 58, of Newark, is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and certain persons prohibited from weapon possession in connection with a shooting that occurred on July 4, 2023, in the 300 block of South 8th Street.

July 10, 2023 – Mr. Victor Lopez, 34, of Newark, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, and criminal mischief for an incident that occurred on June 23, 2023, in the 600 block of Summer Avenue.

The incidents remain under investigation.
