IPad Help Police Nab Suspect in Carjacking at The Mills at Jersey Gardens

A late night carjacking that took place at the Mills at Jersey Gardens had police investigating. 

Mall security responded to several calls of a carjacking that took place near the mall shortly after 8 p.m. The suspect took a white Range Rover from the victim before fleeing the scene. Security officers were able to catch up with the vehicle where they reportedly followed it to North Ave. Security Officers lost track of the vehicle in that area.

Elizabeth Police tracked the vehicle to the area of  Brighton and Dodd Streets in East Orange after the victim reported leaving an IPad device in the vehicle.

The IPad device was reportedly inside a residence when officers converged on the area.  Officers from the Essex County Sheriff's Department was called to assist in the search. 

Officers finally located the vehicle in the area of Bloomfield Ave. and Clifton Ave. in Newark where one person was taken into custody. It is not immediately clear if the suspect was armed with a weapon. 

There were no reported injuries.
