Authorities in Essex County are on the search for a suspect who gunned down a man in broad daylight outside a Home Depot in Newark’s Central Ward Saturday.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Has confirmed that the violent encounter resulted in the victim’s death.
Officials said at approximately 5:15 p.m., police were dispatched to 399 Springfield Avenue to investigate reports of nearly a dozen rounds of gunfire detected by a ShotSpotter device.
Newark Police units arrived and canvased the scene for potential victims. During their search, cops found a severely wounded male suffering multiple gunshot wounds.
The suspect reportedly approached and fired multiple times at the victim before fleeing the scene with a hoodie on.
Officials said The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office will lead the active and ongoing investigation.
No arrests have been reported.
