Newark and North Jersey residents are waking up to a humid and muggy morning as weather conditions indicate the potential for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms throughout the day.

With a humidity level of 85% and a south wind speed of 8 mph, The National Weather Service said the atmosphere is primed for showers and possibly even thunderstorms.

NWS meteorologist said these weather systems have the capacity to bring heavy rainfall, with the chance of precipitation estimated at 90%.

New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches are possible, meaning that residents should prepare for potentially significant rainfall totals.

As the day progresses, showers are expected to become more frequent, and some storms may develop into thunderstorms. It is important to note that these thunderstorms could produce heavy rain, posing the risk of localized flooding in low-lying areas.

NWS forecasters said the Newark and North Jersey region can expect the high temperature to reach around 81 degrees.

While the rainfall will help alleviate some of the heat, staying updated on weather conditions is crucial, as heavy rain can lead to hazardous driving conditions and potential disruptions to outdoor activities.
