Police in Newark are investigating a violent early morning attack on a woman during a robbery in the North Ward Saturday.
Officers were dispatched to an address in the 400 block of North 12th Street to investigate reports of a person robbed just before 5:30 a.m.
Units arrived and found an injured female who reported to police that an armed male suspect exited a vehicle and approached and began to rob her.
During the incident, the suspect violently struck the woman in her face with the weapon.
The victim suffered a laceration to her ear but was not severely injured.
Newark's Robbery Squad and a Crime Scene Unit were called to assist in the active investigation.
No arrests have been reported.
