We share everything in our marriage.
✅ Passcodes.
✅ Money.
✅ Feelings.
But there is one thing that we initially don't share at certain times: personal space (specific times).
To be clear, we're not saying we don't share our space. We do. In fact, we share it even when we may not want to or feel like it.
Here's what we're saying, we take personal getaways a few times a year (two to be exact) to think, plan, self-reflect, pray, and do whatever else our soul needs.
Of course, we can do it together, and we D.O. have time for that. But we also know that time left to ourselves actually serves our marriage.
Life can be really noisy. Not only speaking audibly loud, but thoughts, opinions, and responsibilities, kind of loud.
We've learned that even when we are with each other, we often are focused on the other person. Spending time alone with ourselves apart from each other helps us to realign ourselves and life.
It offers a different kind of rest and reprieve that is not always readily available when we are together.
We've realized that whenever we reunite, it's like a reset. We've missed each other and have so much discovery to share. Giving each this time and personal space to reflect is a gift.
This is done on the bedrock of a healthy and solid marriage that is highly communicative. This needs to be made clear because if not aware, this tool can be used as a weapon instead of s support.
