As the Fourth of July holiday weekend approaches, residents in the Newark and North Jersey region can expect busy roads, increased train traffic, and bustling airports. However, despite ongoing concerns about air quality, the weather conditions are expected to be favorable for outdoor celebrations.

Although the air quality index currently stands at 153, indicating a struggle with air quality, there is positive news on the horizon.

The National Weather Service said that the air quality is expected to gradually improve throughout the day, providing some relief to residents.

The combination of a calm wind speed and a barometer reading of 30.03 suggests that conditions are stabilizing.

Widespread haze caused by Canadian wildfires will still be present. However,  NWS forecasts predict mostly sunny skies with a high temperature near 83 degrees.

As the day progresses, NWS meteorologists said the wind is expected to shift and become southward, with a speed of 5 to 9 mph in the afternoon. This slight breeze can contribute to the dispersion of pollutants and further improve air quality.

While the Fourth of July holiday weekend is traditionally a time for outdoor gatherings, it is essential to remember the significance of air quality for personal health and well-being.

Local authorities and transportation agencies are prepared for the increased volume of travelers during this time.
