Police on a routine patrol on a busy roadway in Newark's East Ward caught a burglar stealing and forcing entry into a gas station convenience store Monday morning.
The suspect was caught red-handed — but officers didn’t have to look very far for him.
He broke into the Speedway gas station convenience store at 645 McCarter Highway.
The suspect smashed the business door before entering, pocketing dozens of NJ Lottery scratch-offs, cigarettes, and other items.
Officers patrolling neighborhoods surrounding the business noticed the suspect inside and placed the man under arrest without further incident.
No injuries were reported.
