New Jersey Man Sentenced to 44 Years in Jail for Explicit Contact on 10-Year-Old Girl

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes announced that Julio Largo-Veletanga, 67, of Paterson, was sentenced to an aggregate term of 44 years in New Jersey State Prison by the Honorable Joseph A. Portelli, J.S.C.

Prosecutor Valdes said on May 17, 2020, the Paterson Police Department referred a sexual assault investigation involving a 10-year-old child victim to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit.

Prosecutor’s Office Detectives interviewed multiple witnesses, including the child victim.

Prosecutor Valdes said the child reported being sexually abused by Mr. Largo-Veletanga on multiple occasions between February 2020 and May 2020 at her home in Paterson. 

On November 15, 2022, a Passaic County petit jury convicted Mr. Largo-Veletanga on all counts.

On June 15, 2023, Prosecutor Valdes said Judge Portelli sentenced Mr. Largo-Veletanga to an aggregate term of 44 years at New Jersey State Prison subject to a 25-year parole disqualifier pursuant to the Jessica Lunsford Act.

Upon release from prison, Mr. Largo-Veletanga will be subject to Parole Supervision for Life and Megan’s Law registration requirements.

The victim and her family members participated in court at the sentencing hearing.

Passaic County Senior Assistant Prosecutor Alyssa DiSturco represented the State during the jury trial before Judge Portelli, and Ian P. Liberty, Esq. represented Mr. Largo-Veletanga.
