Residents of Newark and the surrounding North Jersey region should prepare for rain and storms as a weather system moves through the area today.
Although the day started with a bit of haziness from smoke pushing in from Canadian wildfires, there are no air quality alerts to be concerned about.
According to the latest weather data from Meteorologists from the National Weather Service, there is a slight chance of showers before 11 a.m.
As the morning progresses, the chance of showers and thunderstorms increases between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. By the afternoon, showers are expected, accompanied by the possibility of thunderstorms.
NWS forecasters say some of these storms could potentially produce small hail and gusty winds, creating localized weather hazards.
According to The National Weather Service, the temperature is forecasted to reach a high near 80 degrees, with a calm wind in the morning that will gradually shift to the south, reaching speeds of 5 to 8 mph.
The humidity is currently at 73%, contributing to the muggy conditions.
The National Weather Service has issued a 90% chance of precipitation, with rainfall amounts expected to range between a quarter and half an inch.
While the rain will provide much-needed hydration for lawns and gardens, taking necessary precautions and being mindful of potential flash flooding in low-lying areas is advisable.
Remember to carry an umbrella or raincoat if venturing outdoors today.
