Two NJ Men Charged with Attempted Murder in Hackensack Shooting

Authorities in Bergen County announced the arrests of Bryant Dula of Little Falls and Najee Lloyd of Wood-Ridge, on charges related to a shooting on May 23 in Hackensack. 

Officials say the arrests result from an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Hackensack Police Department under the direction of Officerin-Charge Captain Michael Antista. 

According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, on Tuesday, May 23, at approximately 5:30 p.m., officers from the Hackensack Police responded to the area of Clay and 2nd Street, adjacent to Carver Park, on the report of a shooting involving multiple victims. 

Detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit also responded and initiated an investigation. 

One victim was struck by gunfire from an assault rifle and was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center, authorities say, while the second victim was grazed by the gunfire and refused medical treatment.

Prosecutor Musella said an investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Hackensack Police identified Najee Lloyd and Bryant Dula as suspects in the shooting. 

According to officials, on Wednesday, June 14, Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office detectives executed multiple search warrants and arrested Dula and Lloyd.

During the execution of the search warrants, suspected controlled, dangerous substances were recovered from Lloyd’s residence. 

Dula was charged with two counts of first-degree attempted murder, second-degree conspiracy to commit murder, second-degree unlawful possession of an assault rifle, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and second- 2 degree certain persons not to have weapons, officials say. 

Officials said Lloyd was charged with two counts of first-degree attempted murder, second-degree conspiracy to commit murder, second-degree unlawful possession of an assault rifle, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and second-degree possession with intent to distribute.

Dula and Lloyd were remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending their first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
