U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger reported that four Colombian nationals were charged Thursday for their roles in a scheme to burglarize a home in New Jersey and transport the stolen goods to New York.
Federal officials said Mr. William Londono Rojas, 28, of Plainfield, Mr. Andrew Cifuentes Cadavid, 32, and Mr. Nicolas Ochoa Zambrano, 19, both of Elizabeth, and Mr. Jose Alejandro, Mr. Calvo Orozco, 27, of Madison, are each charged by complaint with conspiracy to transport stolen property.
According to U.S. Attorney Sellinger, Rojas, Cadavid, and Zambrano made their initial appearances before U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael A. Hammer in Newark federal court and were detained.
Officials say Orozco was recently deported.
According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court:
On Nov. 30, 2022, through Dec. 2, 2022, the four defendants burglarized a home and then transported the stolen goods across state lines from Union County, New Jersey, to New York.
The conspiracy to commit interstate transportation of stolen property carries a maximum potential penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine, or twice the gross gain or loss from the offense, whichever is greatest.
