A correctional police officer at a jail in Essex County suffered non-life threatening injuries after being attacked and stabbed by several inmates inside the facility Tuesday.
The unidentified officer was taken to the hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.
According to sources inside the jail, the inmates ambushed the officer inside the prison and then began assaulting him with a sharp item before other officers could assist.
Sources say the grossly understaffed and improperly trained has been the reason for several officers being attacked and assaulted by inmates on multiple occasions.
The incident remains under investigation.
