Passaic County authorities announced that Eldrys Gonzalez-DeJesus, 44, from Paterson, was found guilty of second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child after a jury trial.
According to officials, on March 28, 2022, the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit received a report that Mr. Gonzalez-DeJesus had sexually abused his child.
Officials say after that, the Prosecutor’s Office collected evidence and interviewed multiple witnesses, including the six-year-old child victim.
The victim disclosed that Mr. Gonzalez-DeJesus had sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions when she was five years old at her residence in Paterson.
According to authorities, on May 12, a petit jury convicted Mr. Gonzalez-DeJesus of second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
Authorities say the sentencing hearing is scheduled for September 15. Mr. Gonzalez-DeJesus will remain in the custody of the Passaic County Jail pending sentence.
The sentencing exposure on second degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child is five to ten years in New Jersey State Prison.
Mr. Gonzalez-DeJesus will be subject to Megan’s Law registration requirements and Parole Supervision for Life.
