Multiple shell casings were recovered at the shooting scene in Newark's West Ward Friday.
The late-night shots fired incident happened around 11 p.m. in the area of 20th Street and Springfield Avenue.
When Newark officers arrived, they found evidence that a shooting had occurred, but no victims were found.
The suspect fled the scene and has not been arrested.
Police have given no motive for the shooting.
