The body found in the South Mountain Reservation has been identified as that of a missing Newark woman.
Deja Rodriguez,24, who was reported missing on February 9, had police searching for the woman. On Monday, a hiker who was walking with a dog in the South Mountain Reservation in West Orange discovered the remains around around 5:30 p.m., Essex County Prosecutor's Office spokeswoman Katherine Carter said. FROM THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE: Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today that the woman found dead at South Mountain Reservation has been identified as Deja Rodriguez, 24, of Newark.Rodriguez was reported missing on Feb. 16. Her body was discovered in a secluded wooded area in a section of the park that is located in Millburn.
A final ruling on the cause and manner of death is pending toxicology results but the Medical Examiner has determined it does not appear to be a homicide.
The investigation is active and ongoing. Additional information will be released when it becomes available.
