Police in Newark took a man into custody who was on the premises of an elementary school in the city’s Central Ward with a loaded gun.
It happened on the Fairmount Avenue side of Camden Street school around 12:01 p.m. today.
An investigation revealed that an adult male was caught in close proximity of the school but reportedly did not make it inside the building,
Officials said the school was never in danger and no lockdown procedure was reported inside the school as a precaution.
Parents and staff were notified of the situation.
The area around Camden Street School is known for drug transactions and loitering.
The suspect’s intent is unclear at this time.
