Hudson Jury Convicts Man for BJ’s Parking Lot Murder in Jersey City

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said today a Hudson County jury convicted Ariel Dumit, 37, of Florida, on all counts for the shooting death of Mr. Christian Parra, 34, of Jersey City, on February 28, 2021.

Dumit was found guilty of Murder, Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.

Prosecutor Suarez said the verdict was delivered before the Honorable Carlo Abad, J.S.C., following a two-week trial.

The State was represented in this matter by Hudson County Assistant Prosecutors Erica Bertuzzi and Luisa Florez.

On Sunday, February 28, 2021, at approximately 8:18 p.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to the BJ’s Parking Lot at 396 Marin Boulevard in Jersey City on reports of a shooting.

Prosecutor Suarez said responding officers found a male victim – later identified as Christian Parra, 34, of Jersey City – with an apparent gunshot wound to the torso.

He was transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 9 p.m.

The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the Cause of Death to be a Gunshot Wound to the Torso and the Manner of Death to be Homicide.

Dumit faces 30 years to life in New Jersey State Prison at sentencing, which is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, July 13, 2023.
