Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli announced the arrest of a 29-year-old Garfield man accused of sexually assaulting a 7-year-old boy.
On April 13, members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Garfield Police Department arrested Bremel Myrick Sevillanos after learning that he engaged in inappropriate sexual activity on several occasions with a 9-year-old male acquaintance.
The victim was seven years old when the inappropriate sexual activity occurred but only recently disclosed to his parents the exact details of the incidents.
The victim’s parents contacted the Garfield Police Department who then notified the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit. Arrangements were made for the victim to be interviewed by a detective from the Special Victims Unit at the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office in Paramus.
During that interview, the victim provided specific details regarding what had occurred with Sevillanos. The ensuing investigation resulted in his arrest.
Sevillanos was charged with one count each of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of a child.
His bail was set by the Honorable Menelaos W. Toskos, J.S.C., at $400,000.00 with no ten percent option, no contact with the victim and the surrender of his passport as a condition of bail.
Sevillanos was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail.
