Several victims were hospitalized after a shootout in Newark's Central Ward late Saturday night.
Residents in the vicinity of 162 Court Street sought cover after shooters reportedly exchanged rapid gunfire from what they believe were machine guns around 11:30 p.m.
The loud shooting sounds placed police on extra alert around the Prudential Center while officers were on active patrol in the area.
Units arrived at the scene and reportedly, at least three victims suffered bullet wounds, but none were immediately reported as fatalities.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation and no arrests have been reported.
