Police in Newark requested EMS on a rush to a neighborhood in the Central Ward for a person found shot multiple times Saturday morning.
Officers patrolling the 100 block of Avon Avenue heard about a dozen rounds of gunfire shortly before headquarters received a ShotSpotter activation around 4:25 a.m.
Fast-responding cops arrived at the scene and found a seriously wounded male outside the Pilgrim Village Housing Complex.
The victim was rushed to University Hospital for treatment while officers canvassed the community for additional victims.
Residents inside the complex told RLS Media they heard over a half dozen rounds before hearing a vehicle drive away from the area.
“I looked out the window and saw a bloodied male on the stretcher with medics assisting with his injuries,” a resident said.
No other injuries were reported.
Police said the suspect occupying a white SUV, sped from the scene westbound on Avon Avenue.
