Police set up a crime scene where they collected evidence for a shooting near an elementary school in Newark’s Central Ward this afternoon.
An armed male fired multiple rounds of bullets near the intersection of Bergen Street and 18th Avenue around 2:30 p.m.
When officers arrived, they notified officials at Cleveland Street School to activate a shelter-in-place status.
A search of the Central Ward community was negative for gunshot victims.
The suspect fled the scene and remained at large.
