Kenilworth Police Chief John Zimmerman announced the culmination of a month long investigation that resulted in the shutdown of a large scale drug processing plant in full operation.
Early last month, police were alerted to suspicious activities at a warehouse located on the 100 block of North 10th Street in Kenilworth. Kenilworth Detective Michael Scanielo then began an investigation into the warehouse, which culminated in a Superior Court ordered search warrant being executed by the Kenilworth Police Department on April 10, 2015.
Once they entered the facility, Kenilworth officers discovered the large scale marijuana processing plant which was setup in the warehouse. Chief Zimmerman said “an elaborate setup was discovered in which several rooms had been setup to grow and harvest marijuana”.
During the search, Kenilworth Police found the facility to be setup and growing marijuana in all stages, from juvenile plants to nearly mature plants as well that numbered in excess of 500 plants. Automatic lighting and watering systems were installed, to help promote the growth of the marijuana.
Captain William Hannon, who commanded the search warrant execution, added “this warehouse, approximately 7000 square feet in size, was being leased out to unknown subjects, who have not yet been identified”.
Kenilworth Police detectives are still investigating.
