Wayne authorities announced that on Sunday, March 26th, at approximately 5:48 PM, Wayne Police Officers responded to a reported shoplifter who had just left the Ulta Beauty store at Wayne Towne Center with a bag filled with stolen merchandise.
According to Police, upon his arrival to the area, Officer Beltran spotted a male that matched the suspect’s description carrying bags and crossing North Leg.
Upon Seeing Officer Beltran, the suspect hurried his pace and ducked behind dumpsters in the rear of West Belt Plaza.
Police said when he re-emerged, he was carrying one less bag. Officers Kirby and Monaghan began to approach the suspect while Officer Beltran retrieved the abandoned bag he found near the dumpsters.
The bag was filled with merchandise. The suspect began to flee on foot, with Officer Monaghan in a foot pursuit and calling for the suspect to stop.
According to authorities, officers Kirby and Beltran cut off the suspect’s avenue of escape with their police vehicles. Officer Monaghan took hold of the suspect.
Authorities say he continued to resist arrest before Officers Beltran and Monaghan were able to secure him in handcuffs.
Within the additional bags the suspect was carrying, officers found merchandise totaling several hundred dollars in value from multiple stores with no receipts.
According to the Police, those items were later confirmed to be stolen. A search of the suspect uncovered heroin and drug paraphernalia.
Arrested was Daniel Jimenez, age 34, of Paterson.
Police say he was charged with Receiving Stolen Property, Resisting Arrest, Obstructing the Administration of Law, Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
During processing, Mr. Jimenez was found to have several outstanding warrants for robbery and shoplifting from multiple jurisdictions.
Mr. Jimenez was charged on a complaint warrant and held pending a detention hearing.
