Firefighters in some Hudson County municipalities joined Jersey City Firefighters in battling a ferocious fire that erupted inside a residential building late Thursday night.
Heavy fire and intense flames tore through a three-story building in the single-digit block of Sherman Place around 10:45 p.m.
Firefighters arrived at the scene and found fire ripping through the back of the building, with flames extending and spreading throughout.
Fire officials at the scene struck a second and third alarm for manpower after crews battled a fire that spread to neighboring homes.
According to preliminary reports, several residents and at least three police officers suffered non-life-threatening injuries due to exposure and are expected to recover.
Firefighters controlled the blaze in about two hours, with the cause under investigation.
