Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are investigating a fatal hit-and-run collision that occurred on Sunday, March 5, 2023.
According to a statement released by Prosecutor Suarez, at approximately 12:31 a.m., the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a pedestrian struck in the area of Stegman Avenue and Garfield Avenue.
Prosecutor Suarez said responding officers located a victim – later identified as Ralph Haynes, 55, of Jersey City – with life-threatening injuries.
The striking vehicle did not remain at the scene.
Emergency Medical Services transported Haynes to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 3:38 p.m.
The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this case.
