DEVELOPING: NJ State Trooper Struck by Gunfire in Paterson

A NJ State Trooper suffered non-fatal injuries after he was shot in Paterson Thursday. 

The early morning shooting happened around 12:52 a.m. in the area of 9th Avenue and East 28th Street.   

According to preliminary reports, Troopers were fired upon by three masked men after an investigation in the area.   

The officer suffered a gunshot wound to his leg and was rushed to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson, where he is expected to recover.   

One other officer was taken to the hospital for an injury, but the officer was not shot.

Troopers took one male into custody who is believed to be one of the suspects responsible for shooting the State Trooper. 

Authorities say stray bullets struck several of their unmarked vehicles during the encounter.   

The circumstances behind the shooting are under an active and ongoing investigation. 

UPDATE 5:22 a.m.: NJ State Police Trooper Charles Marchan told RLS Media the following:

“At approximately 12:50 a.m., a New Jersey State Trooper was shot in the lower leg while on patrol in the area of 30th Street in Paterson, N.J.

The trooper sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital and is listed in stable condition.

This is an active investigation and there is no additional information available at the moment.
