Middlesex County officials reported that an Iselin man was charged with a fatal hit and run that occurred early Thursday morning in Piscataway.
Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone said at 12:58 A.M., police responded to the southbound lanes of Route 18 near the border of Piscataway and New Brunswick, following the report of a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction on the Southbound side of Route 18 and causing a head-on collision with another car.
Prosecutor Ciccone said units arrived and located the victim, Mr. Max Spivak, 21, of Old Bridge, suffering severe injuries.
According to Prosecutor Ciccone, Spivak was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Prosecutor Ciccone said the other vehicle's driver, Nageswar Polamuri, 42, of Iselin, fled the scene but was eventually located.
On Thursday, authorities charged Polamuri with one count of second-degree Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash.
The investigation is active and continuing.
Anyone with information or surveillance footage is asked to call Patrolman William Kloos of the Piscataway Police Department at (732) 562-7647 or Sergeant Jonathan Berman of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at (732) 745-4328.
As is the case, Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone said with all criminal defendants, the charges against Polamuri are merely accusations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
