Branchburg Man Arrested for Possession of Narcotics

Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald and Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of County Detectives John W. Fodor announced the arrest of James A. Michael, age 45, Branchburg, for possession of a controlled, dangerous substance.

According to authorities, on Tuesday, February 7, at approximately 8:55 p.m., Branchburg Township Police responded to a business on Route 202 to conduct a welfare check for a male who had been in a restroom for over an hour.  

Authorities say the investigating officers contacted the male who exited the restroom and was identified as James A. Michael. A National Crime Information Center (NCIC)check revealed that James A. Michael was wanted for an outstanding arrest warrant issued by Middlesex County Superior Court for Failure to Appear in Court.

Mr. Michael was placed under arrest without incident.

Officials say a search incident to the arrest of defendant Michael yielded 13 wax folds containing suspected heroin, two small vials of suspected cocaine, and a glass pipe used for smoking narcotics. 

Prosecutor McDonald stated that defendant Michael was charged with two counts of 3rd-degree Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance.   

Defendant Michael was lodged in the Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing in Somerset County Superior Court.
