Authorities in Linden announced three adults and three juveniles are in custody after Police located multiple handguns during a motor vehicle stop.
According to Linden Police, on Friday, January 27, at approximately 11:10 p.m., officers stopped the vehicle on the 1000 block of Summit Terrace.
Police say officers observed a handgun lying on the vehicle's floorboard. A second handgun was also recovered from the car.
One of the occupants, a 17-year-old male from Linden, ran from the scene. The other occupants were arrested without incident.
According to authorities, officers chased the fleeing suspect through a nearby park and several backyards before he was taken into custody on Academy Terr with the assistance of the Union County Sheriff’s K-9 unit.
Police say Medinah Washington, 21, of Pennsville, Thailah Phillips, 19, and Kenyon Devine, 18, both of Rahway, along with three 17-year-old males from Rahway and Linden, are charged with 2nd-degree possession of a weapon, 2nd-degree possession of hollow point bullets, and 4th-degree possession of a large capacity magazine.
Washington, Phillips, and Devine were remanded to the Essex County Jail pending an appearance in Superior Court.
The juveniles were remanded to the Essex County Juvenile Detention Facility pending Family Court appearances.
“These arrests are the direct result of great, old-fashioned police work, and I am very proud of our dedicated Police Officers and Detectives who work so diligently each and every day to keep us safe,” said Police Chief David Hart.
“These arrests, and other violent crime arrests over the past several weeks, demonstrate our continued resolve in pursuing violent criminals and protecting our community.”
