Police in Passaic County took a repeat offender into custody and charged him with multiple offenses after he was found trespassing in a Wayne, NJ, backyard.
Police said today, a resident called the Wayne Police Department to report suspicious activity at around their home. Wayne officials said the caller was watching a man in their backyard via Ring camera.
According to officials, the suspicious male walked about the caller’s backyard carrying a bag and disappeared behind a shed before leaving the yard.
A resident followed the male and reported his location to the police, authorities say. Wayne Police Officers responded and located the man nearby.
Officials said they recognized the male as Jeffrey Plumer from numerous recent encounters, officials said, the on-scene investigation could not determine Mr. Plumer’s purpose for being on the resident’s property.
However, officers discovered that he was under the influence of a controlled substance and in possession of suspected methamphetamine and heroin, officials reported.
Police charged Mr. Plumer was charged with two counts of Possession of a Controlled Dangerous substance and with Being Under the Influence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance on a complaint warrant.
Authorities say he was then placed in Passaic County Jail pending a detention hearing.
During today’s arrest, Mr. Plumer was found to be still wearing his Passaic County Jail inmate wristband from his most recent prior arrest by the Wayne Police Department on January 28th, 2023, according to officials.
Mr. Plumer was known to responding officers because he had been arrested by the Wayne Police Department eleven times in the last seven months.
Officials say that his prior charges have included Possession of Prohibited Weapons, Receiving Stolen Property, Harrassment, Violation of Restraining Orders, and Theft.
The Wayne Police Department is committed to enforcing the law and protecting the safety and quality of life of everyone within the Township, officials said.
The charges against Mr. Plumer are merely accusations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
