Police in Maplewood are looking for two suspects wanted for an early morning robbery in the Township Wednesday.
Maplewood Police officials said that at approximately 1:39 a.m., headquarters received a 911 call from a 49-year-old Jacoby Street resident who stated that he was robbed in his driveway.
According to Maplewood Police, the resident reported that as he exited his vehicle, two black male suspects approached and brandished a small black handgun and demanded his keys and wallet.
Once the resident refused to turn over those items, Maplewood Police said he was struck with the butt of the handgun, causing a minor injury.
Police say the other suspect removed the resident’s wallet from the vehicle during the incident.
Immediately after the robbery, the suspects took off on foot, heading northbound toward Springfield Avenue.
South Essex Fire Department evaluated the resident for his injuries and ultimately refused medical attention.
According to police, one of the men wore a white colored hooded sweatshirt with a black mask and the other suspect wore a dark-colored sweatshirt with a black mask.
Police said both assailants appeared to be between 20-25 years of age.
