Newark Police detectives are on th search for suspects responsible for unloading nearly a dozen rounds of gunfire near an elementary school in the city’s lower West Ward this afternoon.
The wild shots fired incident happened on the South 8th Street side of 13th Avenue School near the Jehovah’s Witness establishment around 1:47 p.m.
Police arrived at the scene and collected about 11 shell casings after shooters repeatedly fired in the area while students were in the school during the afternoon session.
No injuries were immediately reported after officers canvassed the scene.
The motive for the shooting has not been determined and the suspects fled the scene on foot, according to reports.
UPDATE: Residents in the area confirmed that this shooting happened at around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday. Several males exchanged multiple rounds. Residents say police were called, but apparently, no shell casings or victims were found after canvassing in the area of 8th Street and 12th Avenue. Later that afternoon, police returned and located the crime scene with the vehicle shot up.
